Stores Closed on Thanksgiving Day 2022

Updated on Wednesday October 19, 2022: What a few years it’s been, times we’ll never forget! Who would have imagined the world would be flipped upside due to COVID-19, followed by inflation that most of us have never seen in our lifetimes and even possibly on the brink of World War III. But this is the new reality for now and all of us are being forced to make painful adjustments to ours lives. That includes retailers both large and small that are forgoing one of their best and most profitable in-store shopping days of the holiday season — Black Friday doorbuster deals on Thanksgiving Day.

Of course we all know that Black Friday isn’t what it used to be. For the last decade or so it’s been creeping into Thanksgiving day itself with many big retailers opening their doors in the late afternoon when traditionally you would be getting ready to sit down to your family feast. Not only was that forcing you to choose between a good bargain and a life-long family tradition, but also forced millions of minimum wage workers to work on what is arguably the most important holiday in American history.

This year will once again be different as many stores have already confirmed closures on Thanksgiving day itself, either pushing back the official in-store start dates back to Friday itself or moving all their Black Friday doorbuster specials online just like what we see on Cyber Monday.
