Updated on Thursday October 26, 2026: Of course we all know that Black Friday isn’t what it used to be. For the last decade or so before COVID-19 hit, it’s been creeping into Thanksgiving day itself with many big retailers opening their doors in the late afternoon when traditionally you would be getting ready to sit down to your family feast. Not only was that forcing you to choose between a good bargain and a life-long family tradition, but also forced millions of minimum wage workers to work on what is arguably the most important holiday in American history.
But things have changed these last few year as many stores have already confirmed closures on Thanksgiving day itself, either pushing back the official in-store start dates back to Friday itself or moving all their Black Friday doorbuster specials online just like what we see on Cyber Monday.
