Kohl’s Black Friday 2020 Sale – What to Expect

It’s still too early for us to know what’s coming at Kohl’s Black Friday sale this year but you can scroll down the page to see the details from last year to get an idea of what’s likely to come (we’re expecting to see similar deals return).

We’ll be posting a copy of Kohl’s Black Friday ad and all the important details for 2020 once we know more. We’ll also keep you informed with the latest store closures, store hours, mask requirements and in-store restrictions in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Be sure to check back again soon for the latest updates or join our newsletter to be the first to know the moment news is announced.

Expected 2020 Start & End Dates

Ever since we started tracking Kohl’s Black Friday sales 5 years ago, they’ve been running the exact same sale schedule. Typically you could expect the online part of the sale to go live early on the Monday morning before Thanksgiving, 12:01AM Central Time, unless the item was marked as a “doorbuster”. Doorbuster deals would typically go live on 12:01AM CT on Thanksgiving day itself. In stores, doors usually opened at 5:00PM local time on Thanksgiving day.

However this year is unlike any we have ever experienced due to the coronavirus pandemic. Depending on the developments in the outbreak come November, you may see some stores limiting the number of customers allowed in or may even be closed completely in certain hotspot areas. Store hours may also vary by city and state over Thanksgiving weekend this year.

  • Expected start date, online: Monday November 23, 2020 at 12:01AM CT.
  • Expected start date for “doorbuster” deals, online: Thursday November 26, 2020 at 12:01AM CT.
  • Expected start date, in-stores: Thursday November 26, 2020 at 5:00PM local time. Reversing a decade-long trend, Kohl’s has officially confirmed that all stores nationwide will be closed ALL DAY on Thanksgiving day due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. We’re expecting stores to open early on Black Friday morning but the hours have not yet been announced.
  • Expected sale end date: Friday November 27, 2020 at 11:59PM CT or while supplies last.

Our Favorite Deals for 2020

Typically with over 60+ pages of deals, Kohl’s Black Friday ad is packed with everything from electronics to toys, jewelry to clothes, and a whole lot more. Often you’ll find many of the same items overlapping to those featured at Walmart, Best Buy and Target, and at the same advertised sale prices. The only difference being that Kohl’s is known for offering “Kohl’s Cash” — It’s basically a store credit offer where you’ll earn points to use on a future purchase for all purchases made over their Black Friday event. Last year it was $15 of credit for every $50 spent. We’re expecting the same to return for 2020.

In terms of the best bargains, it’s still too early to know what’s coming for 2020 but you expect the deals to be featured in yellow as “doorbusters” on the first few pages of their ad. Here’s a look at some of our favorites from last year:

  • Gaming consoles — Deals on gaming consoles are huge every Black Friday, but with social distancing being the new norm, this will definitely be a blow-out category this year. Last year PS4 and Xbox One S bundles sale priced at $199.99/each, each coming with $60 worth of Kohl’s Cash. There was also a Nintendo Switch bundle available for $319.99 that came with $90 worth of Kohl’s Cash, an Xbox One X bundle priced at $349.99 that came with $105 worth of Kohl’s Cash, and a Playstation VR bundle available for $199.99 that came with $60 worth of Kohl’s Cash. All of these were fantastic deals.
  • Kitchen appliances — I don’t know about you, but I’ve never cooked at home so much during these last few months than the previous few years combined. Being locked up and isolated inside means that there’s a lot more cooking going on and as such, kitchen appliances have become more essential than ever before. Last year Kohl’s had the Instant Pot Duo Nova 7-in-1 on sale for $67.99 (normally $149.99), KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer on sale for $279.99 (normally priced at $379.99), and Nutri Ninja Blender on sale for $50.99 (regularly priced for $129.99).
  • Ring Video Doorbell — This was a popular Christmas gift last year, and we’re expecting it to be even more popular the year as more folks stay at home due to the Coronavirus and with for packages to arrive. Last year it was priced at $139.99 and came with $30 worth of Kohl’s Cash (normally $199.99).
  • Smart speakers — With rivals Amazon and Google trying to get customers on their smart home platforms, we were the ones who benefits from the deep discounts. Last year you could have picked up the Echo Dot for $22.00 (normally $49.99) or the Nest Mini Gen 2 for $29.00 (normally $49.00). They also had the Google Home Smart Light starter kit for $25.00 (normally $55.00), the Amazon Echo Show 5 smart display with Alexa for $49.99 (normally $99.99), and the Google Nest Hub smart screen on sale for $79.00 (normally $129).
  • Toys — Black Friday is a great time to pick up toys for your little ones. Kohl’s has a few pages-worth of deals with our favorites being select Lego sets at 30% off; mix and match buy-one get-one 50% off on brands such as Fisher-Price, Little Tikes, Nerf, Fortnite and Play-Doh; and an entire page of under-$20 deals such as a basketball hoop, LED light-up kick scooter, Barbie set, and inflatable ball pit.

This should give you a general idea on the deals likely coming our way here in 2020. We’ll of course be updating this list once Kohl’s Black Friday ad is leaked sometime in early November.

  1. I’ll be picking up a new crock pot and maybe a KitchenAid mixer. I’m hoping Kohl’s will have some good deals on them this year for Black Friday!

    1. Hi Melissa – Unfortunately, not all the deals go live early on Kohl’s website today, just a select number of them are included in the “preview” Black Friday sale this year happening today. Cheers, Eric
