Hi! My name is Witold (pronounced "vee-told") and I am the founder of BlackerFriday.com. After many years working in corporate america, I decided it was time to take a break to pursue my real passion — helping people save money. Ever since I was a little boy selling pencils in the playground to my kindergarden friends, later collecting aluminum cans from all my neighbors in elementary school to support my baseball card addiction, eventually becoming an eBay Power Seller in my older years to support my college education, I had an eye for spotting deals. I’ve taken what I have learned over the years and built Blacker Friday to bring you the best Black Friday rumors, predictions, and news website. Fortunately I'm not alone in this - We have a great team of dedicated folks helping make this site possible. TurboTax 2026 Military Free & Freedom Edition Discount

Updated on Monday, February 16, 2026: TurboTax is back once again for the 2026 tax season with free federal and state filling for E1 through E9 ranking active duty and reserve military personnel stationed both domestically and oversees. That includes those serving in the the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy and, most recently, Space Force. You’ll be able to use any one of TurboTax’s Online versions for free including the Deluxe, Premier and Self-Employed versions.

How does it work?

You can start by visiting TurboTax’s Main Start Page where you’ll be able to either sign up to a new TurboTax online account or login to your existing account if you’ve previously used TurboTax before. Then select the version of the program that best matches your tax current situation: Deluxe for general tax deductions and credits, Premier if you own investments for rental property, or Self-Employed if you have also have other personal or business income/expenses that you need file. If you’re not sure which version to choose then you can start with the Deluxe version and the program will guide you to which vision you’ll need based on your individual tax situation. You can disregard any of the posted prices for the Deluxe, Premier or Self-Employed versions as the appropriate discount will be applied to your order so the price at checkout becomes $0 as soon as you enter your qualifying military W-2 form. That includes both federal and state tax filing fees for using TurboTax. Just keep in mind that there is no free offer or discount available on any TurboTax Live, Plus, Max or Desktop/CD/Download versions.

What’s great about TurboTax is that even though it’s free for qualifying military filers, the program was specifically designed with input from active duty, reservists, retired military personnel, and military spouses to address specific situations that often arise from being enlisted. That includes how best to deal with, report and deduct things like combat pay, multi-state and oversees relocations/residencies, determining Home of Record, uniform and moving expenses, permanent change of stations and more.

Can my non-military spouse file for free as well?

Yes! Your non-military wife, husband or registered domestic partner can file with you for free if you are filling a joint tax return.

My Turbotax military discount was not applied.

If you’ve completed your tax return using TurboTax Deluxe, Premier or Self-Employed online versions and the program is still asking you to pay, then return to the “My Info” section and make sure you completed all the military related questions. Also be sure that “Active Duty Military Pay” is selected when inputing your W-2 form. Note: A military-issued ID card is not used to apply this offer. Remember, if you just joined the military in 2026 then you won’t yet qualify for free TurboTax filing for the 2025 tax year (however you’ll be eligible in 2027 when filing your 2026 tax return assuming this freebee continues next year).

Is TurboTax free for Military Officers?

TurboTax Online is free for qualifying enlisted E1-E9 ranking military personnel who are filing this year with a military issued W-2 tax form only. All commissioned officers, warrant officers, and anyone else ranking E6 and above are excluded from this offer. But don’t worry if you don’t qualify for this free deal the you may still be able to save on your TurboTax purchase with these available discounts.

Do military veterans or retirees get a TurboTax discount?

No. Military veterans and retirees do not qualify for free filing with TurboTax.

TurboTax 2026 Discounts & Offers

Updated on Monday, February 16, 2026: Tax season is officially here, and once again we’re here to take some of the pain out of filing your return — Here’s a look at all of the best TurboTax discount available today.

Our Favorite TurboTax Discounts & Offers, February 2026:

  • Extra 20% off TurboTax Online — There’s an additional 20% instant discount available on TurboTax Online Federal products through March 30, 2026, applied at checkout. It works across Do It Yourself, Live Assisted, and Full Service options, depending on how much help you want. This discount stacks on top of standard pricing but can’t be combined with other TurboTax promotions. It’s a small but noticeable difference, especially if you’re already leaning toward expert help.
  • Early-bird pricing — TurboTax offers lower pricing early in the tax season, with savings of up to $40 on federal online products if you file by February 27, 2026. You can still choose between doing everything yourself, getting occasional help from an expert, or handing the whole thing off. Filing early also means you’re more likely to get your refund sooner since the IRS processes early returns first. Many people use this window just to lock in a better price.
  • Switch and file free in the app — If TurboTax wasn’t what you used last year, you can switch and file your taxes for free using the Do It Yourself option in the TurboTax or Credit Karma mobile app. This works for both federal and state returns and doesn’t limit you to “simple” taxes, so things like freelance income, investments, or rental property are included. Even if the system flags your return as more complex, the upgrade fee is waived as long as you file in the app by 11:59pm ET on February 28, 2026. This app-only setup is one of the few ways TurboTax allows free filing for more involved tax situations.
  • Military discount — Active duty service members and reservists ranked E1 through E9 can file both federal and state returns for free using TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed, as long as they have a DFAS-issued W-2. Live help and desktop versions aren’t included, but the core filing cost is covered. This benefit has been around for years and is one of TurboTax’s most generous long-running programs. Veterans and retirees still qualify for the standard discounts offered to all users.
  • TurboTax for College Students — TurboTax breaks the process down in a way that’s easier for first-time filers, which can help students avoid common mistakes. Many students don’t realize they may qualify for education credits and deductions that can add up to more than $1,000. The software also explains which tax forms matter and which ones can usually be ignored. International students and non-resident filers can use Sprintax, which is built specifically for those cases. • File for free with TurboTax Free Edition — TurboTax’s Free Edition. ~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).
  • TurboTax Free Trial — You can start your tax return online without paying anything and explore all of TurboTax’s features before deciding whether to file. Payment only happens right before submission, which lets you see exactly what your return looks like first. Many people use the trial to test different filing options or estimate their refund. It’s also a helpful way to see if your return is simpler than you expected.

This page is being updated live, all tax-season long through the tax deadline on April 15, 2026, so be sure to bookmark us and check back before filing for the latest Turbotax deals. Good luck with your tax return this year!

Was my TurboTax discount properly applied?

Just like you’ll see at any other online store, when a TurboTax discount is properly applied the full price will be crossed out in red and the new price will shown. But unlike at other checkout carts, there will not be a promo code box; all discounts from TurboTax are automatically applied to your account when you follow a qualifying and valid discount link (just like the ones tased at the top of this page!).

What’s a TurboTax “service code” and should I use it?

At checkout you’ll likely notice an optional “service code” box. This is used to adjust a purchase price for a particular version and is only given out by TurboTax’s customer support specialists on an individual case-by-case basis. For example, let’s say you accidentally filed with the wrong version. Customer support may issue you a code so that you can redo your return without having to pay twice. Keep in mind, service codes are never given out by any third-parties/affiliates as discounts.

How can Mint help make taxes easier?

Mint integrates with TurboTax to help you get organized with your tax deductions and maximize your refund. Mint will also notify you with your refund arrives and get you set up with a high-yield savings account or CD to get your money working for you. Learn more at mint.intuit.com/taxes2.

TurboTax 2026 Discounts & Offers

Updated on Monday, February 16, 2026: We are back again this tax season with our live list of TurboTax discounts and offers for 2026, tracking all the best deals available from now through this year’s tax deadline on Tuesday, April 15th. That includes any exclusive partnership offers you’ll see through your bank and financial institutions (i.e. Fidelity, Bank of America, etc.) and those we find on popular social sites (i.e. Reddit). Enjoy!

Our Favorite TurboTax Offers, February 2026:

  • Extra 20% off TurboTax Online Federal — There’s an extra 20% discount available on TurboTax Online Federal products through March 30, 2026, and it’s applied automatically when you check out. You can use it on Do It Yourself, Live Assisted, or Full Service, depending on what feels right for your situation. This can come in handy if you want access to expert help without committing to the full cost up front. It’s especially useful if your return feels a bit outside your comfort zone.
  • Switch and file free in the app — If you didn’t file with TurboTax last year, you can switch over and file your taxes for free using the Do It Yourself option in the TurboTax or Credit Karma mobile app. This includes both federal and state returns and works for just about any tax situation, whether your return is simple or more involved. Even things like self-employment income, investments, rental property, or itemized deductions are covered. If you’re asked to upgrade, the fee is waived as long as you file in the app by 11:59pm ET on February 28, 2026. After that date, or if you move to a browser instead of the app, regular pricing applies.
  • Early-bird pricing — Filing earlier in the season can save you up to $40 with TurboTax’s early-bird pricing, available on federal online products through February 27, 2026. You can still choose how much help you want, from fully DIY to having someone guide you through the process. It’s also a good way to avoid the last-minute scramble that tends to happen closer to the deadline. Getting started early gives you more breathing room to review everything.
  • TurboTax for College Students — TurboTax walks students through the filing process step by step, which helps if this is your first time dealing with taxes. Many students qualify for education credits and deductions that can add up to over $1,000 back. It also helps explain what forms matter and which ones you can ignore. International students and non-resident filers can use Sprintax for more specialized support. Learn more.
  • Military Free — Active duty service members and reservists from E1 through E9 can file federal and state returns for free using TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed with a DFAS-issued W-2. TurboTax Live and Desktop versions aren’t included, but the core filing is fully covered. This can take one more thing off your plate during an already busy year. Veterans and retirees still qualify for the standard discounts available to everyone else.
  • TurboTax Free Trial — You can start your return online at no cost and take your time exploring TurboTax’s tools and features. You won’t be charged unless you decide to file, so there’s no pressure to commit right away. It’s useful if you want to compare versions or just see how complicated your return actually is. Many people use it just to get organized before making a decision.
  • File for free with TurboTax Free Edition — TurboTax’s Free Edition. ~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).

This page is being updated as new deals come in, all year long, so be sure to bookmark us and check back before filing for the latest Turbotax deals. Good luck with your tax return!

How will I know my TurboTax discount is properly applied?

Regardless which of the offers you use above, all TurboTax discounts are automatically applied to your order when you (a) follow a qualifying link and (b) login to your online TurboTax account. The same is true if you are taking advantage of a TurboTax discount through your bank or financial institution such as Fidelity, Bank of America, Citi or Vanguard. You’ll know that the offer is successfully applied once you are ready to pay for your TurboTax purchase. See below for an example.

What is a TurboTax service code?

When finalizing your tax return using any one of TurboTax’s online versions, you’ll come across a “I have a service code” message in your cart. What does this mean? Well, under certain circumstances select customers are given a code to tie back their purchase to a customer service agent, to apply a make-good discount (for example, if you were already changed previously for a version of TurboTax), or for some other reason. Very few customers are given these codes to use so if you don’t already have one then be sure to keep this space black.

Can I stack TurboTax discounts together towards a single purchase?

You’ll often find that there are several discounts offered for the same versions of TurboTax depending on where you look. For example, Fidelity may be offering $20 off Deluxe Online when purchased through your account, Chase Bank may be offering $10 off Deluxe Online when purchased through your account, you might find a $20 instant coupon on this page on Deluxe Online, maybe a $5 coupon on Reddit or Slickdeals, and so forth. Always choose the best deal because you will not be able to combine offers into a single purchase. Keep in mind that the last offer you clicked will be applied to your purchase — It’s the only one that counts.
