Top TurboTax Discounts & Offers, April 2025:

  • Extra 10% off TurboTax Online Federal — Get an additional 10% off any TurboTax Online Federal product with this instant coupon, on top of the regular price. This offer is available through March 30, 2026, and applies to all online federal products. You can choose between Do-It-Yourself, Live Assisted with access to tax experts, or Full Service where a professional handles everything for you. It’s a good option if your taxes are more complicated or you want extra reassurance along the way.
  • Switch and file free in the app (new customers) — If you didn’t file with TurboTax last year, you can switch and file your taxes for free using the Do It Yourself option in the TurboTax or Credit Karma mobile app. This includes both federal and state returns and works for almost any tax situation, whether it’s straightforward or more involved like self-employment income, investments, or rental property. You might see a prompt to upgrade for more complex returns, but the upgrade fee is waived as long as you file in the app by 11:59pm ET on February 28, 2026. If you file after that date or move to a web browser, standard pricing applies, so filing in the app on time matters.
  • Early-bird savings — Filing early can save you up to $40 with TurboTax’s early-bird pricing, available on federal online products through February 27, 2026. You still get to pick how much help you want, whether you prefer to do it yourself, get expert guidance, or hand it off entirely. Filing earlier also gives you more time to review everything without rushing before deadlines.
  • Military discount — Active duty military members and reservists from E1 through E9 can file both federal and state returns for free using TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed. A W-2 from DFAS is required, and TurboTax Live or Desktop (CD/Download) products aren’t included. Veterans and retirees still receive the standard TurboTax discount, making this a solid benefit for current service members.
  • TurboTax for College Students — Students filing for the first time can follow step-by-step guidance that helps make the process less overwhelming. Many qualifying students can receive over $1,000 back through education-related credits and deductions. International students and non-resident filers can also get help through Sprintax to make sure their returns are handled correctly.
  • TurboTax Free TrialYou can start your tax return online for free and use TurboTax’s tools without paying anything upfront. You only pay right before you file if you decide to move forward. This gives you time to explore your options, organize your information, and decide which version works best for you.
  • TurboTax Free Edition — If your taxes are simple, you may qualify to file both federal and state returns at no cost. About 37% of taxpayers qualify, typically those filing a Form 1040 with limited credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit. It’s a straightforward option for anyone who wants to file quickly without paying anything extra.

When is the tax filing deadline this year?

This year you’ll have up until 11:59PM your local time on Tuesday, April 15, 2026 to file your federal tax return and October 15, 2026 for extended filings. If you’re sending your taxes by mail then many post offices will be open late in order to accommodate your tax return. If you’re sending it out electronically (e-file), then recommend not waiting until the last minutes to file. However, if you do file a day or two late… then the late fees aren’t usually to bad (last fees and interest charges are calculated based on how late you file).

I’m an Uber driver, can I use TurboTax?

As an Uber driver you’re considered as self-employed (you’re not on Uber’s permanent payroll). TurboTax is already made to accommodate Uber drivers when you use their Self-Employed Home & Business versions.

What’s a TurboTax Service Code?

Once it’s time to complete your TurboTax order, you’ll see a section where you can enter an optional “service code”. If you have one then you can enter it, but it’s not needed unless you received one from a TurboTax support agent. They are usually given out for either order tracking or to apply a discount. But because all the discounts we currently have don’t require a service code, you can leave this area blank.

I made a mistake but I’ve already filed.

No worries, TurboTax lets you amend your already-filed tax return. You’ll find the link to amend your return within your online TurboTax account.

Do I need a computer to use TurboTax?

One of the benefits of TurboTax Online is that you can work on and complete your tax return from any internet-connected device, no software installation is required. So that means you can use your iPhone, Tablet, etc., to file your return. On the other hand, if you decide to purchase a TurboTax Desktop version, then you will only be able to use the software on the machine that you’ve chosen to install the software on.
