Backcountry Black Friday 2026: Deals, Dates & Predictions

Updated on Sunday, September 6, 2026: Backcountry has not announced its Black Friday 2026 sale yet, but last year’s event gives us a useful roadmap.

Our prediction is up to 30% off select full-price gear for Summit Club members, along with clearance discounts reaching 60% to 70% off.

Expect deals on jackets, hiking gear, tents, backpacks, footwear, ski and snowboard equipment and plenty of outdoor clothing.

Backcountry Black Friday 2026 at a Glance

Sale Detail Our 2026 Prediction
Black Friday Friday, November 27
Expected sale start Around November 17
Expected end Around December 1
Full-price savings Up to 20% to 30%
Clearance Up to 60% to 70%
Summit Club Likely important for the best full-price offer
Cyber Monday Monday, November 30
Free shipping Likely on qualifying orders over a minimum

These are predictions. We’ll update this page once Backcountry confirms the 2026 sale.

When Will Backcountry’s Black Friday 2026 Sale Start?

Our best prediction is around Tuesday, November 17.

Last year’s event began November 18, ten days before Black Friday, and ran through December 2, the day after Cyber Monday. Summit Club members were given access to the main full-price offer at backcountry.com.

If Backcountry follows the same schedule this year, a November 17 start and December 1 end would make sense.

There may also be smaller promotions before then, so we would start paying attention by the middle of November.

How Much Will Backcountry Take Off?

We think the sale will have two very different discount levels.

Type of Gear What We Expect
Eligible full-price gear 20% to 30% off
Sale merchandise Around 30% to 50% off
Older colors and models Around 40% to 60% off
Clearance Up to 60% to 70% off

Last Black Friday, Summit Club members could save up to 30% on eligible full-price merchandise, while Backcountry’s clearance section reached up to 70% off.

That is the pattern we would expect again.

What Could Backcountry Black Friday Prices Look Like?

Backcountry sells thousands of products and brand exclusions can change, so predicting exact sale items this early would be misleading.

But we can show what a 20% to 30% Black Friday discount would mean on some current full-price gear.

Current Item Current Price At 20% Off At 30% Off
NEMO Kunai 2-Person Tent $599.95 $479.96 $419.97
Redington Classic Trout Kit $479.99 $383.99 $335.99
Osprey Porter 46L Backpack $199.95 $159.96 $139.97
The North Face Jester Backpack $90.00 $72.00 $63.00

These products are currently listed by Backcountry among its full-price gear, but they are not confirmed Black Friday items.

Think of these as examples of what the savings could look like if similar gear qualifies in November.

The 70% Off Headline Isn’t What We Would Chase

This is probably the most useful thing to know about Backcountry.

An “up to 70% off” Black Friday banner sounds impressive, but Backcountry is already offering discounts that deep in September. Its current Labor Day sale reaches up to 60% off, while its September flash sale is advertising up to 70% off select products.

So we would not wait until November just because you expect a 70% clearance headline.

What makes Black Friday more interesting is the chance to save on current, full-price gear that normally does not get a large markdown.

Our rough guide:

Discount Our Take
20% off full-price gear Good
25% off full-price gear Very good
30% off full-price gear One of the deals to watch
40% to 50% off sale gear Good if your size is available
60% to 70% off Great, but usually older or clearance inventory

Shop Full-Price Gear and Clearance Differently

For current gear, we would shop early.

If the exact backpack, ski jacket, boots or tent you want gets 25% to 30% off, that may be worth taking before your size or color disappears.

Clearance is different.

There is usually less reason to rush into a 30% clearance markdown because Backcountry regularly reaches 50%, 60% and sometimes 70% off older merchandise.

The deeper discount usually comes with a tradeoff: fewer sizes, colors and previous-season models.

Summit Club Could Matter More This Year

Backcountry changed its loyalty program in 2025, so some of the information on the old page is now outdated.

The current Summit Club has two levels.

The regular Summit Club is free and includes early access to select promotions and member-only offers.

Summit Club+ costs $49 per year and includes 10% cash back on eligible purchases, free two-day shipping on qualifying orders of $150 or more, early access and other perks.

If Backcountry again makes its best Black Friday full-price discount a member offer, there is little reason not to have the free Summit Club account ready beforehand.

We would not pay $49 for Summit Club+ just for one small purchase. But someone planning to spend hundreds of dollars on skis, a tent, outerwear or other gear may get much more value from the cash back and shipping benefits.

What Will Be Worth Buying?

We would prioritize expensive full-price gear.

A 25% discount on a $500 tent saves $125. The same discount on a $40 shirt saves $10.

That makes tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, ski and snowboard gear, premium jackets and technical footwear the first categories we would check.

Winter gear also makes sense because Black Friday arrives right as ski and snowboard season is getting underway.

For fleece, casual clothing and smaller accessories, we would be more willing to wait for clearance.

Compare Backcountry With the Brand’s Own Sale

One advantage of Backcountry is that it carries many outdoor brands in one place.

The downside is that the exact same product may also be discounted by the manufacturer.

Before buying an expensive item, check the brand’s own Black Friday sale. A 20% Backcountry discount may look less impressive if the manufacturer is offering 25% or 30%.

On the other hand, Backcountry can be the better choice if the brand itself excludes the product, your preferred size is sold out elsewhere, or your Summit Club benefits improve the total value.

For outdoor gear, we would compare the final checkout price rather than the advertised percentage.

Don’t Forget About Shipping

Backcountry currently offers free standard shipping when an order meets its advertised minimum, which is presently $69 for eligible orders. Oversized items such as bikes, kayaks, rooftop tents and certain other gear can be excluded.

That is worth checking before buying a large piece of equipment.

A cheaper sticker price can stop being the better deal once freight or oversized shipping gets added.

Should You Wait for Cyber Monday?

Probably not for a specific item.

Last year’s Black Friday event already ran through the day after Cyber Monday, so there was plenty of overlap between the two events.

Backcountry also maintains a large Cyber Monday sale section with thousands of discounted products, including gear at 40% and 50% off or more.

If you find a current item you want at 25% to 30% off before Cyber Monday, we would buy it.

If you are mainly hunting clearance and don’t care much about color or model year, waiting until November 30 could be worth the gamble.

When Will the Backcountry Black Friday 2026 Ad Come Out?

We expect the first real details around mid-November.

Last year the sale was already live on November 18, so we should know the main offer well before Thanksgiving.

Once Backcountry announces its 2026 promotion, we’ll update this page with the confirmed sale dates, member discount, clearance savings, exclusions and our picks for the best deals.

What to Expect from Backcountry’s After-Christmas Sale in 2024

Updated on Thursday, December 5, 2024: If you’re someone who loves the outdoors—or just appreciates high-quality gear—Backcountry’s After-Christmas Sale is always worth a look. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect, when it’s happening, and how to make the most of it.

When Does the Sale Start and End?

Backcountry’s After-Christmas Clearance Sale is expected to start on December 23, 2024. The sale will likely run through December 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM MST, but keep in mind that popular items and sizes tend to sell out quickly. Backcountry’s inventory is well-known for offering high-demand, limited-stock items, so shopping early is always a good idea.

What Kind of Discounts Can You Expect?

This is where things get exciting. Backcountry’s After-Christmas Sale is expected to offer:

  • Up to 50% off select styles from big-name brands like Sorel, Patagonia, Burton, and Columbia.
  • Up to 85% off items in the clearance section of the site.

The range of discounts means there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a smaller upgrade to your gear or are on the hunt for some deep clearance deals. Backcountry is known for its premium outdoor products, so anytime you can score a discount like this, it’s worth jumping on.

What Should You Buy?

With such a wide selection, narrowing down your choices can be a little overwhelming. Over the years, I’ve learned to focus on a few key categories that tend to have the best deals during Backcountry’s sales:

1. Winter Gear

This is a great time to grab winter essentials. Look for discounted jackets, snow pants, boots, and gloves from brands like Patagonia, Columbia, and Sorel. I’ve scored some amazing deals on insulated jackets during past sales, and they’ve lasted me for years.

2. Ski and Snowboard Gear

If you’re a skier or snowboarder, Backcountry is a goldmine for high-quality gear. Check out brands like Burton for outerwear and accessories that will keep you comfortable and stylish on the slopes.

3. Hiking and Camping Equipment

While this sale comes during the winter, it’s a smart time to stock up on gear for the warmer months ahead. Look for discounts on backpacks, sleeping bags, and tents. Even if your next big adventure is months away, it’s nice to know you got what you needed at a fraction of the cost.

4. Activewear and Layers

Base layers, fleece pullovers, and activewear from brands like Patagonia and Columbia are staples for outdoor enthusiasts. Even if you’re not hitting the mountains, these pieces are perfect for everyday wear during the colder months.

5. Clearance Section Finds

The clearance section is where things get really interesting. With discounts of up to 85% off, you can find everything from last season’s gear to lesser-known gems at unbeatable prices. I’ve found everything from trail shoes to water bottles in this section, and it’s always worth a browse.

How to Make the Most of the Sale

Shopping during a big sale like this can feel overwhelming, so here are some tips I’ve learned over the years to make it easier:

1. Create a Wishlist Ahead of Time

If you know what you need—like a new winter jacket or hiking boots—go ahead and make a list before the sale starts. This will help you focus on the items you really want, rather than getting sidetracked by everything on offer.

2. Shop Early

It’s worth repeating: shop early. Popular sizes and styles tend to go quickly during Backcountry’s sales, especially when it comes to big-name brands like Patagonia and Sorel.

3. Use Filters

The Backcountry website has some great filtering tools. You can narrow down your search by size, brand, color, and even discount percentage. This can save you a ton of time and help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

4. Check the Clearance Section First

I always start in the clearance section because that’s where you’ll find the steepest discounts—sometimes up to 85% off. Even if it’s not the latest model or style, clearance items are often just as functional as full-priced ones.

5. Read the Fine Print

As with any big sale, some exclusions will apply. Be sure to check the details on Backcountry’s site so you know exactly what’s included in the sale.
