Why Ross Does Not Participate

Ross operates differently from most major retailers. Instead of focusing on promotional events, the company emphasizes everyday low prices. Its business model is based on purchasing overstock, excess inventory, and past-season items from brand-name manufacturers and department stores. This allows them to price goods significantly lower than standard retail, often between 40 to 70 percent off original tags.

Because of this structure, Ross does not need to rely on seasonal promotions. Prices are already discounted year-round, so adding Black Friday markdowns would not align with their strategy.

Comparison to Similar Retailers

Ross is not unique in this approach. Other off-price retailers such as TJ Maxx and Marshalls also skip Black Friday promotions. These stores follow the same everyday discount model, which keeps pricing steady instead of fluctuating around holiday events.

While department stores and big-box chains push limited-time deals to attract crowds, Ross and its competitors position themselves as consistent discount destinations without the hype of single-day sales.

Ross will keep its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day in 2025, reopening early on Black Friday morning. Exact opening hours vary by location, but many stores extend hours to accommodate higher foot traffic.
