Here’s everything you need to know about what’s likely coming this year at Dollar General’s upcoming Black Friday 2025 sale—from the expected ad release date to typical store hours and some examples of the kinds of deals Dollar General has offered before.
When Will the Dollar General Black Friday Ad Come Out?
The Black Friday ad for Dollar General usually leaks or gets released early in November, typically around two weeks before Thanksgiving. Based on last year’s timing, we’re expecting to see the ad drop around Tuesday, November 11, 2025. That could change, of course, but if you’re someone who likes to plan ahead, that’s a good date to keep in mind.
The ad is usually pretty short—around four pages—and it highlights all the key deals running over the Black Friday weekend. Once it’s out, you’ll be able to get a clear picture of what’s included and any fine print about when and where items will be available.
When Does the Sale Start and End?
Most of the Black Friday deals at Dollar General are expected to run from Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025) through Saturday night (November 29, 2025), or while supplies last. That’s a three-day window, which gives shoppers a little flexibility. That said, a few items may be Black Friday-only specials, which means they’ll only be available on November 28, 2025. The ad usually calls this out clearly, so it’s worth scanning for those specific time-sensitive offers once the flyer is released.
Stores will be open during the sale, including Thanksgiving Day. Typical store hours during this time are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., but keep in mind that not all locations follow the same schedule. For example, stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine are closed on Thanksgiving due to state laws, so those stores will start their sales on Friday instead.
Where Can You Shop?
Dollar General’s Black Friday deals are in-store only for the most part. While some limited items may be found online, their big seasonal sales like this tend to be focused on foot traffic. Not every store will carry every deal—so if you live near more than one location, you may want to check around or call ahead to confirm whether a specific deal is available.
One thing to note: there are no rain checks offered during the Black Friday sale. So if something sells out, that’s usually it. Also, Dollar General may place purchase limits on some popular items to help prevent bulk buying or reselling. This is pretty standard across retailers during events like this, but it’s still good to know in advance.
What Kind of Deals Can You Expect?
Dollar General’s Black Friday sale usually focuses on affordable holiday items, small kitchen gadgets, personal care products, pet supplies, and giftable goods. You won’t see high-end electronics or big-ticket appliances like you might at other stores, but if you’re looking for solid discounts on useful items, you’ll likely find something worth picking up.
Here are some types of offers we saw in last year’s ad, which may show up again in 2025 (or at least give you a ballpark idea):
1. BOGO Deals (Buy One, Get One Offers)
-
BOGO 75% Off: When you bought two items of equal or lesser value, the second item was 75% off. These were usually holiday-themed items, toys, or seasonal décor.
-
BOGO 50% Off Holiday Candles: A popular one, especially for those looking to stock up on gifts or cozy home scents.
-
BOGO Free on Select Pet Food: This applied to certain brands of dog and cat food, which can be a great value if you have pets.
2. Holiday Decor and Accessories
-
50% Off Christmas Trees, Lights, Tree Toppers, Skirts, and Ornaments: A great option for decorating on a budget. Last year’s selection wasn’t luxury-tier, but it was festive and affordable.
3. Small Appliances
-
Select Appliances from $5 to $15 Each: These were typically things like personal blenders, mini waffle makers, or small coffee machines. Brands varied, but the pricing made them good stocking stuffers or starter kitchen tools.
4. Gift Cards
-
15%–20% Off Select Gift Cards: These included Xbox, Lowe’s, and a few others. Not every location had every brand, and the supply was sometimes limited, but the savings were real.
-
20% Off Multi-Pack Gift Cards: These were often restaurant or retail bundles that you could split into separate gifts or use yourself.
Other Things You Might See Discounted
While the exact details for 2025 won’t be confirmed until the ad drops, here are some other categories that have seen good Black Friday pricing at Dollar General in previous years:
Toys
-
Basic children’s toys, puzzles, dolls, and activity kits.
-
Multi-buy deals like “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” or percentage discounts on toy brands Dollar General typically carries.

Gloves, beanies, scarves, and socks at 25–50% off.
-
Thermal wear and fleece-lined basics are also commonly discounted.
