TurboTax 2026 Discounts & Offers

Updated on Sunday, February 1, 2026: Tax season is officially here, and once again we’re here to take some of the pain out of filing your return — Here’s a look at all of the best TurboTax discount available today.

Our Favorite TurboTax Discounts & Offers, February 2026:

  • Extra 20% off TurboTax Online — There’s an additional 20% instant discount available on TurboTax Online Federal products through March 30, 2026, applied at checkout. It works across Do It Yourself, Live Assisted, and Full Service options, depending on how much help you want. This discount stacks on top of standard pricing but can’t be combined with other TurboTax promotions. It’s a small but noticeable difference, especially if you’re already leaning toward expert help.
  • Early-bird pricing — TurboTax offers lower pricing early in the tax season, with savings of up to $40 on federal online products if you file by February 27, 2026. You can still choose between doing everything yourself, getting occasional help from an expert, or handing the whole thing off. Filing early also means you’re more likely to get your refund sooner since the IRS processes early returns first. Many people use this window just to lock in a better price.
  • Switch and file free in the app — If TurboTax wasn’t what you used last year, you can switch and file your taxes for free using the Do It Yourself option in the TurboTax or Credit Karma mobile app. This works for both federal and state returns and doesn’t limit you to “simple” taxes, so things like freelance income, investments, or rental property are included. Even if the system flags your return as more complex, the upgrade fee is waived as long as you file in the app by 11:59pm ET on February 28, 2026. This app-only setup is one of the few ways TurboTax allows free filing for more involved tax situations.
  • Military discount — Active duty service members and reservists ranked E1 through E9 can file both federal and state returns for free using TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed, as long as they have a DFAS-issued W-2. Live help and desktop versions aren’t included, but the core filing cost is covered. This benefit has been around for years and is one of TurboTax’s most generous long-running programs. Veterans and retirees still qualify for the standard discounts offered to all users.
  • TurboTax for College Students — TurboTax breaks the process down in a way that’s easier for first-time filers, which can help students avoid common mistakes. Many students don’t realize they may qualify for education credits and deductions that can add up to more than $1,000. The software also explains which tax forms matter and which ones can usually be ignored. International students and non-resident filers can use Sprintax, which is built specifically for those cases. • File for free with TurboTax Free Edition — TurboTax’s Free Edition. ~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).
  • TurboTax Free Trial — You can start your tax return online without paying anything and explore all of TurboTax’s features before deciding whether to file. Payment only happens right before submission, which lets you see exactly what your return looks like first. Many people use the trial to test different filing options or estimate their refund. It’s also a helpful way to see if your return is simpler than you expected.

Was my TurboTax discount properly applied?

Just like you’ll see at any other online store, when a TurboTax discount is properly applied the full price will be crossed out in red and the new price will shown. But unlike at other checkout carts, there will not be a promo code box; all discounts from TurboTax are automatically applied to your account when you follow a qualifying and valid discount link (just like the ones tased at the top of this page!).

What’s a TurboTax “service code” and should I use it?

At checkout you’ll likely notice an optional “service code” box. This is used to adjust a purchase price for a particular version and is only given out by TurboTax’s customer support specialists on an individual case-by-case basis. For example, let’s say you accidentally filed with the wrong version. Customer support may issue you a code so that you can redo your return without having to pay twice. Keep in mind, service codes are never given out by any third-parties/affiliates as discounts.
