If you’re planning to shop at Madewell this Black Friday, it’s a good idea to know what’s likely to be on offer, when the sale will start, and what kinds of deals you can actually expect. Here’s what we’re predicting this year.

Likely Black Friday 2025 Sale Dates and Duration

Madewell’s Black Friday sale in 2025 is expected to kick off on Saturday, November 22, 2025. That’s five days before Thanksgiving. Typically, the sale runs straight through to Cyber Monday, which this year falls on December 1, 2025.

How the Discount Works

Madewell usually offers 40% off almost everything both online at madewell.com and in stores during the event. The 40% discount applies to full-priced items as well as many sale items. For online purchases, you’ll likely need to use a promo code at checkout. Last year, the code was MADEBETTER, and it showed up in all their ads and on the site banner, so it’s hard to miss. That same code might be used again in 2025, but there’s always a chance it’ll change.

In stores, the discount is automatically applied at checkout, so you don’t need to do anything except pick your items and pay. The only catch is that not everything is included, so it’s good to know the typical exclusions ahead of time.

Common Exclusions

Not everything at Madewell qualifies for the 40% discount, and that’s been consistent every year. Some of the usual exclusions include:

  • Madewell Forever items (their resale section)

  • Third-party brands sold on their site

  • Darted Barrel jeans

  • Full-Length Kick Out Jeans

  • Low-Slung Baggy Jeans in Leopard Print

  • Men’s selvedge jeans

  • Greta Ballet Flats

  • Suede jackets, accessories, and footwear

  • Suede belts

  • Gift cards

Basically, if it’s a special material like suede or a newer, in-demand denim fit, it might not be part of the deal. The exclusions are typically listed in fine print on their website during the sale, so it’s worth double-checking before checking out.

How Madewell Handles Sale Items

During the Black Friday sale, sale items often get an extra 40% off on top of their existing markdowns. That can lead to some pretty deep discounts, especially on older seasonal merchandise.

For example, a sweater originally priced at $110 might already be marked down to $69.99. With an extra 40% off, that would bring the price down to around $42. You’ll see these items clearly marked online with text like “Extra 40% off with code MADEBETTER.”

In stores, clearance items ending in .99 are usually eligible for the extra discount as well. Just check with the sales associate if it’s not clear.
