Updated March 31st, 2016: We here at Blacker Friday don’t just monitor all of the Black Friday deals but also track many of our favorite offers throughout the year. And because almost nothing gets us as exceeded as paying our taxes (yes, we’re joking), we wanted to tell you about one of our favorite deals of the year – and that’s the TurboTax-Bank of America discount that’s once again back this year! Bank of America has teamed up with TurboTax to offer their clients a break on the popular at home tax preparation software. And best of all, the deal is available for everyone so no need to login through your online account to get it (or even be a customer this year as it’s no longer located behind a secure login). Even if you’ve already completed most of your tax return, you’ll be able to apply the discount as long as you haven’t yet purchased/paid for your TurboTax software.
How to get the deal
Just go to this page on the Bank of America website. Then select “continue” and you’ll be re-directed you to the official TurboTax site with the offer applied to all three online versions (there’s nothing more to it!). Once there, you will have three different options to chose from: Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business. If you’re not sure which one you need, then just select the one that best matches your specific tax situation; you’ll be able to upgrade later on if you need to. But wait, this offer will not be tied to your account unless you’re logged in. So if you already have a TurboTax online account you’ll be able to login now when prompted. If you don’t have one (i.e., you are a first time TurboTax customer), then you can create an account for free. Once it’s time to pay, you’ll see the lower prices applied (just remember that the State return fees are extra if you need to file one too).
How much will I save?
This year the savings are around 18% off so that means you’ll save anywhere from $10.00 to $20.00 off your purchase depending on the version you end up selecting (we’ve seen it up to 35% off in year’s past, but the prices have gone down a bit and so have the partner offers). We’ve included the price points below so just check it out to see how much you’ll save.
Hey, I need the Desktop/CD version.
If you’re accustomed to using the desktop versions – that’s where you actually install the software on your computer – then this deal from Bank of America won’t do you any good. That’s because the Online versions are the only products included in the offer. We recommend that you see our full collection of TurboTax offers for April where you’ll find the other promotions available now on both the boxed and online versions.
For those of you that don’t know, the online versions are nearly identical to their boxed counterparts, except that the programs are purely web-based. That means that as long you are connected to the internet, regardless of the computer of tablet that you are using, you will be able to work on and complete your tax return from your online TurboTax account.
Is this a good deal?
With only two weeks left to file our taxes this year, time is quickly running out to file in time. TurboTax knows this and usually the closer we are to the tax deadline, the more scarce some of the good offers get. At the moment, we haven’t seen anything better than this price point: $10.00 off Deluxe, $15.00 off Premier and $20.00 off Home & Business. Even with some of the other partner offers out there this year – Including the ones from Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Wells Fargo, AAA, and Discover – It will be hard to get anything better unless you’re buying one of the disc versions from a reseller (Amazon typically has the lowest prices at any given moment so that may be worth checking). But if you’ve across something better that we don’t know about, then be sure to let us know in the comments below.
